Aligned to Common Core and College and Career Readiness Standards the Essential Skills Workbooks break concepts down into manageable steps to help adult students grasp concepts and solve problems. The lessons use examples from everyday life to make ideas relatable. Three workbooks include lessons in five subject areas.
Essential Math Skills
Whether it's applied to business, science, or commerce, math becomes more accessible when students can relate it to real-world contexts. Students learn strategies to approach, solve, and check their answers. All math covered in high school equivalency tests are here, including abstract problem solving, calculations, algebra, and geometry.
Essential Reading Skills
Being able to analyze and form opinions about what a writer is saying creates meaning to what students read. Through reading and evaluating, students can approach the text, determine its purpose and gain comprehension. This workbook develops vocabulary skills, as well as an understanding of central themes, arguments, literary conventions, story structure, and point of view.
Essential Writing and Language Skills
Knowing what to say and how to clearly express ideas are core to writing. By practicing effective planning, drafting and editing skills, students can take on any writing challenge. Practice focuses on developing ideas, citing evidence, copy editing and proofreading, as well as defining sentence structure. Science and social studies writing tutorials are also included.

How Can I Prepare for the TASC Test?
Step 1: We recommend that you prepare for each TASC Test subtest separately, starting with your weakest subject. Take the first practice TASC Test in your weakest subject—Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies. You’ll get detailed answer explanations for every question and a score report that will help you understand your strengths and weaknesses so you can study more effectively!
Step 2: Your next step is to take the TASC Test Preparation Tutorial. There is a unit for each TASC Test subtest. Each unit in the tutorial will teach you—through lessons, practice, and quizzes—the concepts and skills you’ll need for the official test. It is highly recommended that you take a unit from start to finish, focusing on the topics that you identified as weaknesses in the practice TASC Test subjects.
Step 3: After you’ve completed the first practice TASC Test and its corresponding unit in the tutorial, you’re one step closer to being ready for test day. Your next step is to take the second practice test to see how much you’ve improved in the subject you’re focusing on. When you’re done, return to the tutorial to focus on remaining weaknesses. Be sure to follow these steps for all five parts of TASC Test!
